In 2011, Macedonia’s Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM) took the initiative to seek the assistance of the Grant Management Solutions (GMS) technical support team in reforming their membership process and building institutional capacity. An IDEAS staff member lead a team who re-oriented the CCM to its responsibilities under its Global Fund grants, conducted organizational development activities to foster good governance, and developed tools to strengthen the oversight of grants to Principal Recipients. With GMS assistance, the CCM reduced its membership and significantly increased member participation. The team also worked with the newly established CCM Secretariat to clarify its functions and document its procedures, including the development of governance and operation manuals and budget.
